Gintoki Sakata, the protagonist of the popular anime and manga series Gintama, is a complex and often contradictory figure. He is a samurai living in an Edo period Japan that has been conquered by aliens known as the Amanto. Despite the shifting societal landscape, Gintoki clings to his samurai code, though he's often seen bending or breaking rules.

He runs an odd-jobs business called Yorozuya Gin-chan, alongside his apprentices Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura. While seemingly lazy and perpetually broke, with a penchant for sweets and gambling, Gintoki possesses incredible swordsmanship skills and a strong sense of justice. He is haunted by his past as a formidable warrior during the Joui War against the Amanto.

Known for his silver perm and perpetually bored expression, Gintoki is a master of comedic timing, often breaking the fourth wall and engaging in slapstick humor. However, beneath the surface lies a deeply caring and loyal individual who will fiercely protect those he considers family. His past and his dedication to his chosen path make him a compelling and beloved character.
