Biography:
Indigo-1, also known as Iroque, is a fictional character in the DC Comics universe. She first appeared in Green Lantern #25 (December 2007) and was created by Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver.
Prior to becoming a wielder of the Indigo Light of Compassion, Iroque was the merciless queen of the planet Nok. Her reign was characterized by extreme cruelty and she had a reputation as a brutal tyrant.
Abin Sur, a Green Lantern, visited Nok and used the Indigo Power Battery to transform Iroque. The indigo light compelled her to feel remorse for her past actions and to embrace compassion. As Indigo-1, she became the leader of the Indigo Tribe, a group dedicated to spreading compassion throughout the universe.
The Indigo Tribe relies on the ability to channel the emotions of others, often requiring the presence of someone experiencing strong emotions to properly utilize their powers. Indigo-1 is deeply devoted to her purpose, though the origin of the Indigo Tribe and the exact nature of their forced compassion has sometimes raised ethical concerns.
