Doctor Mid-Nite is the name of multiple superheroes in the DC Comics universe, all physicians who fight crime after gaining the ability to see perfectly in darkness but becoming blind in daylight.
The first Doctor Mid-Nite, Charles McNider, debuted in All-American Comics #25 (April 1941). He was blinded by an exploding grenade while performing an emergency operation, only to discover he could see in total darkness. He used special goggles and a "blackout bomb" to aid his crimefighting. He had an owl sidekick named Hooty.
Other characters have taken on the mantle. They generally possess similar abilities, gained through different circumstances. They all possess the capacity to see in the dark.
