Julius Henry "Groucho" Marx (1890-1977) was an American comedian, actor, writer, stage, radio, and television personality. He is best known as a master of quick wit, satire, and irreverent humor, and as one of the Marx Brothers.
Groucho distinguished himself with his painted mustache and eyebrows, glasses, and ever-present cigar. He often played cynical, fast-talking characters who were always looking for a way to make a quick buck or swindle someone.
The Marx Brothers achieved fame on Broadway before transitioning to Hollywood, where they starred in a series of successful comedy films including "Duck Soup," "A Night at the Opera," and "A Day at the Races." Groucho's distinctive persona was a cornerstone of the group's appeal.
Later in his career, Groucho hosted the popular radio and television game show "You Bet Your Life," showcasing his improvisational skills and sharp comedic timing. This further cemented his status as a beloved figure in American entertainment.
