Ralph Hinkley is the protagonist of the 1980s American superhero comedy-drama television series, The Greatest American Hero. Played by William Katt, Ralph is a mild-mannered high school special education teacher.
His ordinary life takes an extraordinary turn when he encounters a crashed alien spacecraft. The aliens bestow upon him a powerful, red superhero suit with incredible abilities, including flight, super strength, and invulnerability.
However, Ralph loses the suit's instruction manual, leaving him to haphazardly learn to control its powers through trial and error. This leads to comical and often dangerous situations, as he struggles to master his newfound abilities while fighting crime.
Alongside FBI Agent Bill Maxwell (Robert Culp), who is initially skeptical but becomes a reluctant ally, Ralph uses the suit to thwart criminals and protect the innocent, despite his lack of training and frequent mishaps. His identity remains a closely guarded secret to those outside of his crime fighting team.
