Adam Strange is a DC Comics character who first appeared in Showcase #17 (November 1958). He is an archaeologist who, through the Zeta Beam technology, is periodically transported from Earth to the planet Rann.
On Rann, Adam Strange becomes the planet's champion, defending it from various threats with his knowledge of Earth technology and his own ingenuity. He is also romantically involved with Alanna, the daughter of Sardath, the scientist who invented the Zeta Beam.
The Zeta Beam is not permanent, so Adam Strange is periodically returned to Earth, only to be summoned back to Rann when needed. This creates a cyclical pattern in his life, where he juggles his life on Earth with his responsibilities as a hero on Rann.
