Darth Maul, a formidable warrior in the Star Wars saga, made his first appearance in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.
He was a Dathomirian Zabrak, and a Sith Lord trained by Darth Sidious. Thought to be killed during the Battle of Naboo, Maul survived, fueled by rage and a desire for revenge.
Resurfacing during the Clone Wars, as depicted in the Clone Wars TV show, Maul had been driven mad by his injuries and isolation. He eventually regained his sanity and, with his brother Savage Opress, established a criminal empire. He posed a persistent threat to both the Republic and the Separatists.
Throughout the Clone Wars TV show, Darth Maul sought to usurp Darth Sidious and exact vengeance on Obi-Wan Kenobi, leading to numerous confrontations and demonstrating his ruthless ambition and impressive combat skills.
