John McClane is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Die Hard film series, portrayed by Bruce Willis. He is a New York City Police Department (NYPD) detective and later a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer known for his sardonic wit, resourcefulness, and aversion to following authority.
