Air-Walker, also known as Gabriel Lan, is a fictional character appearing in Marvel Comics. He was originally a member of the Nova Corps, an elite intergalactic police force from the planet Xandar.
Chosen for his bravery and skill, Lan became the herald of Galactus, a cosmic entity who consumes planets to sustain his life force. Galactus imbued Lan with the Power Cosmic, granting him superhuman abilities, including flight at near-light speeds, energy projection, and enhanced durability.
As Air-Walker, Lan's primary duty was to seek out uninhabited planets for Galactus to consume, sparing populated worlds whenever possible. However, he was eventually killed in battle, defending Galactus from an alien race.
Despite his death, the Air-Walker persona lived on. Galactus transferred Lan's consciousness into an android, creating a new, subservient Air-Walker who lacked the original's moral compass. This android served Galactus for many years, engaging in numerous conflicts with Earth's heroes.
Various iterations of Air-Walker, both human and android, have appeared throughout Marvel Comics, representing the complex relationship between herald and master, and the corrupting influence of immense power.
