Orphan, also known as Cassandra Cain, is a DC Comics character. She first appeared in Batman #567 (July 1999).
Cassandra is the daughter of assassins David Cain and Lady Shiva. Raised from birth to be the ultimate martial artist, she was deprived of speech and human contact, instead learning to "read" body language to predict and react to her opponents' movements.
This upbringing left her unable to speak or read properly, but gave her unparalleled combat skills. Seeking redemption for her father's actions, she joins Batman's crusade against crime.
