Biography:
Marvelman, originally known as Miracleman, is a superhero created by writer Alan Moore and several artists for the British comics anthology Warrior in the 1980s. The character is a reimagining of the earlier Marvelman, a Captain Marvel (Shazam!) clone from the 1950s.
Mike Moran was a reporter who regained his memories of being Marvelman, a powerful superhero, after uttering the word "Kimota!". This transformed him into a physically superior being with flight, super strength, and energy projection abilities. He was not alone, as his young companions, Dicky Dauntless and Johnny Bates, were similarly transformed into Young Marvelman and Kid Marvelman respectively.
Moore's run explored the psychological and philosophical implications of individuals possessing god-like power. Marvelman wrestled with his identity, the morality of his actions, and the impact his existence had on the world. The series deconstructed the superhero genre, presenting a mature and complex narrative in stark contrast to traditional superhero fare.
Ownership of the character and its history has been complex. In 2009, Marvel Comics acquired the rights to Marvelman, and in recent years, have begun publishing new stories and reprints under the original Marvelman name.
