Jake Arrieta is a retired Major League Baseball pitcher, most notably recognized for his time with the Chicago Cubs. He was born on March 6, 1986, in Farmington, Missouri.
Arrieta began his MLB career with the Baltimore Orioles in 2010, after being drafted out of Texas Christian University. However, he struggled to find consistency during his tenure there.
His career trajectory drastically changed when he was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2013. Under the tutelage of Cubs pitching coach Chris Bosio, Arrieta transformed into a dominant force on the mound. In 2015, he won the National League Cy Young Award, posting a 22-6 record with a 1.77 ERA.
He played a key role in the Cubs' historic 2016 World Series championship, contributing crucial starts throughout the playoffs. After leaving the Cubs, Arrieta had stints with the Philadelphia Phillies and a return to the Cubs before retiring after the 2021 season. He is remembered for his intense competitiveness and impressive pitching repertoire.
