Nicholas "Nick" Markakis (born November 17, 1983) is a retired American professional baseball outfielder. He played 15 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Markakis was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the first round of the 2003 MLB draft and made his major league debut with them in 2006. He played with the Orioles through the 2014 season, establishing himself as a consistent and reliable player.
In 2015, Markakis signed with the Atlanta Braves, where he continued his career as a valuable outfielder. He was known for his strong defensive skills, particularly his throwing arm, earning him three Gold Glove Awards. He also developed into a consistent hitter, known more for high averages and on-base percentage than power.
Markakis retired after the 2020 season, having accumulated over 2,300 career hits. He briefly unretired to rejoin the Braves in 2021, but ultimately retired again, cementing his legacy as a respected and durable player.
