Biography:
Miraclewoman is a superhero character created by writer Alan Moore under the pseudonym "Jill Presto" and artist Alan Davis for Warrior Magazine, published by Quality Communications in the early 1980s. She is a pastiche and reimagining of Marvel Comics's character, Marvelman/Miracleman, but with a distinctly feminist perspective.
Her civilian identity is Joan Bates, a newspaper reporter. Through the utterance of a magic word, "Kimota," she transforms into the superhumanly powerful Miraclewoman. Unlike the male Miracleman, who struggled with his identity and the responsibilities of his power, Miraclewoman generally embraces her role and uses her abilities with a greater sense of purpose.
Miraclewoman's powers include flight, superhuman strength, speed, and durability. She's also capable of energy projection and possesses enhanced senses. Her stories often dealt with the challenges of balancing her secret identity with her superheroic duties, as well as exploring themes of gender and power dynamics.
Due to legal battles over the rights to Marvelman/Miracleman, Miraclewoman's appearances have been limited. However, the character remains a significant figure in independent comics history, lauded for her feminist portrayal and contribution to the deconstruction of superhero tropes.
