Vance Astro, also known as Captain Galaxy, is a Marvel Comics character who first appeared in *Marvel Super-Heroes* #18 (January 1969).
He is an astronaut from Earth who volunteered for a centuries-long journey to Alpha Centauri in suspended animation. During the trip, his body was sustained by a special copper alloy suit.
Upon arriving at his destination far into the future, he discovered humans had already colonized the planet via faster-than-light travel. He was then recruited into the original Guardians of the Galaxy.
In some storylines, Vance Astro possesses telekinetic powers. His experiences have made him a dedicated protector of the innocent across the galaxy.
