The Flying Monkeys are characters most famously associated with the Wicked Witch of the West in the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz. They serve as her aerial army, carrying out her commands and terrorizing the land of Oz.
These winged primates are depicted as fierce and menacing, readily attacking Dorothy and her companions on the Witch's orders. Their origins in the film are mysterious, simply presented as loyal servants bound to the Witch's power.
Variations of the Flying Monkeys have appeared in other media, often as comedic relief. For instance, in The Lego Batman Movie, a Flying Monkey makes a cameo as one of the many villains recruited by the Joker.
