Tow Mater, often simply called Mater, is a prominent character in the Disney/Pixar Cars franchise. He first appeared in the 2006 animated film, Cars.
Mater is a rusty tow truck residing in the town of Radiator Springs. Voiced by Larry the Cable Guy, he is portrayed as a friendly, albeit somewhat naive, individual. He is Lightning McQueen's best friend and provides comic relief throughout the Cars series.
In Cars 2, Mater plays a more central role, becoming inadvertently involved in international espionage. His loyalty and down-to-earth nature are constant characteristics throughout his appearances.
