Star Sapphire Batwoman is a relatively recent addition to the DC Comics universe, debuting in Batwoman Vol. 2 #35 (2015). While traditionally Star Sapphire is associated with Carol Ferris, Hal Jordan's on-again, off-again girlfriend and adversary, this iteration features a Kate Kane (Batwoman) empowered by a Star Sapphire ring.
This alternate reality Batwoman exists within Earth-11, a world where most heroes and villains are gender-swapped versions of their mainstream counterparts. After encountering the ring, Kate is chosen by its violet light, fueled by love, transforming her into Star Sapphire Batwoman. This grants her abilities similar to other Star Sapphires, including flight, energy constructs, and the power to sense and manipulate the emotions of others.
Unlike other Star Sapphires influenced by the often-manipulative nature of the ring, Kate uses her powers with a sense of justice and purpose aligned with her Batwoman persona. She fights alongside other Earth-11 heroes, working to protect her world from threats. Her origin and relationship with the ring differ significantly from Carol Ferris's experience, making her a unique take on the Star Sapphire concept.
