Biography:
Ryuk is a Shinigami, or god of death, from the manga and anime series Death Note. He is not inherently evil, but rather bored with the Shinigami realm and seeks entertainment in the human world.
Ryuk first appears in the initial chapter and episode of Death Note. He drops a Death Note, a notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in it, into the human world with the intention of relieving his boredom and observing what transpires.
He becomes a constant, if somewhat detached, observer in the life of Light Yagami, the human who finds the Death Note. Ryuk's amusement comes from watching Light's actions and the consequences that unfold as Light attempts to create a new world order.
