John Schlesinger, born February 16, 1926, and deceased July 25, 2003, was a highly acclaimed British film and stage director. He is best known for directing "Midnight Cowboy," which won him the Academy Award for Best Director in 1970, making him the only director of a X-rated film to achieve this honor. This iconic film also won Best Picture.
Schlesinger's career was marked by a diverse filmography spanning several genres. He also directed "Darling", "Marathon Man", and "Sunday Bloody Sunday," all of which were nominated for multiple Academy Awards. Schlesinger's films often explored themes of social alienation and personal identity.
