R2-KT, often referred to as "KT," is an R2 series astromech droid in the Star Wars universe. Unlike many astromech droids depicted on-screen, R2-KT's origins lie not within Lucasfilm's design studios, but in the real world. She was created by Albin Johnson, founder of the 501st Legion, a Star Wars fan organization, as a tribute to his daughter Katie, who was battling a terminal brain tumor.

The pink-colored droid, a stark contrast to the more common blue and white of R2-D2, became a symbol of hope and resilience. R2-KT serves as a reminder of the power of community and the enduring impact of Star Wars. Katie Johnson passed away in 2005. Her legacy, through R2-KT, continues to inspire Star Wars fans worldwide.

Originally a fan-built creation, R2-KT's popularity and poignant backstory led to her official inclusion in the Star Wars canon. She has made appearances in animated series like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, cementing her place within the galaxy far, far away.
