Jack Dawson is a fictional character portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the 1997 film Titanic. He first appears early in the film, winning a third-class ticket aboard the RMS Titanic in a poker game.
Dawson is a poor artist from Wisconsin, traveling the world and living a bohemian lifestyle. Onboard the ship, he meets and falls in love with Rose DeWitt Bukater, a first-class passenger engaged to a wealthy but cruel man.
