Catelyn Stark, played by Michelle Fairley, first appears in the opening episode of the HBO television series Game of Thrones. She is the wife of Eddard "Ned" Stark, Lord of Winterfell, and mother to Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran, and Rickon Stark. Born a Tully, of Riverrun, her family motto is "Family, Duty, Honor", which influences her actions throughout the series.

Catelyn is portrayed as fiercely protective of her children. Her early actions in the series are driven by an attempt to protect Bran after his fall and subsequent assassination attempt. This leads her to suspect the Lannisters, triggering a chain of events that escalates into war.

Throughout the series, Catelyn acts as a key advisor to her son, Robb, as he becomes the King in the North. While she is a valuable strategist, her emotional attachments sometimes cloud her judgment, leading to conflict and difficult decisions. Her story ends tragically at the Red Wedding, a massacre where she and Robb are murdered.
