Vigo the Carpathian, also known as Viggie, is a fictional character primarily known as the main antagonist in the 1989 film Ghostbusters II.
He is depicted as a 16th-century tyrant and sorcerer from Carpathia, a region in Eastern Europe. Known for his cruelty and magical abilities, Vigo terrorized his people before his death, which he predicted would be followed by his return.
In the film, Vigo's spirit is trapped within a painting hanging in the Manhattan Museum of Art. He attempts to possess the body of Oscar Barrett, the infant son of Dana Barrett, in order to be reborn into the world. The Ghostbusters ultimately thwart his plans by using positive emotions to weaken his hold and eventually trap him.
