Faramir is a character in J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy novel, *The Lord of the Rings*. He first appears in *The Two Towers*.
He is the younger son of Denethor II, the Steward of Gondor, and brother to Boromir. Faramir commands the Rangers of Ithilien, protecting Gondor's borders. Unlike his brother, Faramir is portrayed as thoughtful, just, and wise.
Although tempted, he resists the desire to take the One Ring for Gondor, recognizing its inherent danger. He plays a crucial role in aiding Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee on their quest to destroy the Ring, providing them with supplies and guidance. He later marries Éowyn, becoming the Prince of Ithilien after Aragorn's coronation.
