Cat, played by Danny John-Jules, is a fictional character from the British science fiction comedy television show Red Dwarf. He first appeared in the show's first episode, "The End," broadcast on February 15, 1988.
Cat is a humanoid creature evolved from the ship's pet cat, Frankenstein. Over three million years, Frankenstein's descendants developed into a species of humanoids obsessed with fashion and appearance.
Cat is self-centered, vain, and largely ignorant of the universe, concerned primarily with grooming, food, and chasing anything female. He possesses a unique gait and mannerisms, reflecting his feline origins, and often speaks in a distinctive, slang-filled dialect.
Despite his flaws, Cat provides much of the comic relief on Red Dwarf and forms an integral part of the dysfunctional crew.
