Biography:
Arnold Judas Rimmer, BSc, SSC, is a prominent character in the British science fiction comedy series, Red Dwarf. He is a hologram of a deceased second technician aboard the mining ship Red Dwarf.
Rimmer died in an accident caused by his own incompetence when a drive plate he failed to properly inspect ruptured. To alleviate Lister's loneliness, the ship's computer, Holly, resurrected Rimmer as a hologram.
Initially, Rimmer is portrayed as officious, self-important, and deeply insecure, driven by a desire to prove himself and escape his perceived failures in life. He is obsessed with regulations and military protocol, which often clashes with Lister's laid-back attitude.
Over the series, Rimmer's character evolves. While his core personality remains largely intact, he demonstrates moments of genuine bravery and even self-sacrifice. He is often the source of both the crew's problems and their solutions, embodying a complex blend of ineptitude and occasional brilliance. He is known for his H designator printed on his forehead.
