Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist of "The Hunger Games" film series, first appearing in the movie *The Hunger Games* (2012), based on Suzanne Collins' novel. She resides in District 12, the poorest district of Panem.
Following the death of her father, Katniss steps up to provide for her mother and younger sister, Prim. She's resourceful and skilled with a bow and arrow, honing her hunting abilities in the woods outside District 12.
Katniss's life is irrevocably changed when she volunteers as tribute in the place of her sister for the 74th Hunger Games, a televised fight to the death where tributes from each district are forced to compete. Her act of defiance sparks a rebellion against the Capitol and President Snow.
